The Night That Was Not

It was a moonlit night. A full moon was shining brightly in the night sky, with stars twinkling in the background, a cool breeze was in the air. He did not know what it was…but there was something in that night. He would never have thought that it would actually happen…but it did…he let the chips fall as they were going to...a moment he would never forget in his life.

As usual, they both went to the roof of the Computer Engineering block, the sun had just set when they arrived. Nightfall had just begun. She again reminded him that it was a full moon night. He looked up at the sky, the moon was distinctly visible, just beginning to illuminate in the growingly dark sky. It was not the first time that she had reminded him this…she had not missed a single full moon night since she was 8. When they walked around the college campus, she had pointed it out a few times and each time she did…he was left in total amazement.

They sat there…sitting under the light of the full moon…the scene so serene, so beautiful. She was totally lost in the moonlit sky and he in her. He looked at her so intently…what beauty he thought…he was confused where to look…the beauty beside him or the beauty above. She was still looking up, her eyes trying to take in the all the beauty that the sky had to offer that night. He was seeing her…all the while…nothing caught his attention when she was beside him.
Then suddenly, their hands brushed…every touch of hers sent shivers down his body…she still looked up. He moved his hand over hers’, catching her attention…she looked at him...he was offering to hold her hands in his. She smiled and obliged… they sat with their hands in one another’s. His heart was racing, yet everything around him seemed to calm down, his uneasiness leaving him bit by bit…he felt her fingers caressing his hand…he felt each and every touch she made…leaving chills inside him.

He wanted to take it all in…capture this moment…he was sitting there with his special one, hands in hands, under the moonlit sky…he had not witnessed such a beautiful moment in a long time. He could feel himself loosening…he did not want to control whatever was coming next. He always wanted to take control of things around him…always wanted to take control of what was coming. But today, his heart told him not to. She once told him that he keeps things too tight…controlling too much around him…she told him to loosen up a little…today was the moment to do so.

It was total silence for quite some time…she looked at him…he was already looking straight into her eyes. She could sense that there was something different in that look of his…she could feel his grip on her hand tightening. He wants to say something she thought…it still was complete silence…his look left her speechless too. In other situations she would have changed the topic by breaking the silence…but this…this was different…she couldn’t think of anything to speak...her heart raced.

Then suddenly, he got up…his hand still in hers, the grip still tight. He was 6’ and she was 5’5’’…she still sat on the wide railing of the roof and he was now standing in front of her…they were now face to face. He still kept looking straight into her eyes. She saw him rising his other hand towards her face…he carefully placed the peck of her hair on her face behind her ears. He then gently stroked her forehead with a deft touch...the eyes still looking into hers. He moved a bit forward…coming closer to her…with the distance diminishing, their hearts started racing even more. She wanted to say something…but before she could say a word, he stopped her by placing his finger on her lips. She stopped thinking, she could sense something in his eyes…she had not seen him like this before.

He then moved his face towards hers, his hand now behind her head…she knew what was coming. She hesitated a little…he stopped midway and looked towards her…both could hear one another’s deep breaths…she could sense him asking her to let go for once, just like he was. She did. Then it happened. Their lips intertwined beneath the now full lit moon in the dark surroundings. It was a moment they both would never forget. As they kissed, it seemed they were transported to another world…whatever feelings that they had for one another, were now coming out. The scene was beautiful, perfect…it was not attraction nor lust nor pleasure…it was an instinct, a way that made them express their feelings even better...even they could not have given a reason as to why it happened. She once said to him…there are some whys with no answers and they are better to be left unanswered…this why was one of them.

When it ended minutes later…he could still feel her taste on his lips. They were still looking at one another…intently…not a word was said. He grabbed both of her hands in his…made her come down to the roof from the railing she was sitting on. Her head now reaching as high as his chest. He slowly pulled herself towards him and they hugged instinctively. Her petite hands around him...she had closed her eyes…she could feel his warmth, his deep breaths and his heartbeats clearly...she hugged him tight. He was just taking it all in…the enormity and the beauty of the moment. He had sometimes imagined it but he never thought it could really be this good. But suddenly…he felt something…

His eyes were closed…he felt someone poking him in the hand…he was startled a bit…he opened his eyes…she was sitting beside him on the wide railing…giving him an innocent look and saying something. It was about time he woke up from his dream. He sighed deeply and then they both started looking into the beautiful moonlit sky…he was just glad she was beside him. Then suddenly their hands brushed…

You!

I wasn't looking for anything or in the dark I could not, people all around but still all alone, looking around, myself was all I got. I was wanting something, something I wasn't ready to admit, I had killed myself in the process, by going deeper into the pit. Then somebody removed the shroud, I could see what they called light, it all seemed so odd at first, but I could see the colors, new colors all so bright. Someone was now helping me, helping me to see the sights, we saw it all together, bright days, setting suns, lighted paths and moonlit nights. Always beside me I could see, a hand that I could hold, Was this that I was looking for? Had I ever got this feeling? living all too cold. Everything and anything for a smile I did, that smile slowly became mine, Is it bad that this happened? I really don't know if I crossed the line. Was I better alone I wonder, with no expectations whatsoever, caring for no one but me, Was it better not to ...
